Several ATP participants will join an ARCTOS PhD school cruise with R/V "Jan Mayen" to Svalbard waters 3-12 May.
The ship will leave from Longyearbyen 3 May, going out Isfjorden, then south and east towards Hopen.
Temperature dependent responses in microplankton respiration, gene expression in phytoplankton, feeding and egg production of copepods (Calanus finmarchicus and Calanus glacialis) are processes that will be studied during this years cruise in ATP.
The ATP cruise starts in Tromsø 15 June, and head north towards the northern Barents Sea and the Svalbard archipelago. On board there are 16 scientists, 5 artists and 2 journalists.
The main goal of the cruise is to perform experiments along a temperature gradient in order to assess warming thresholds for metabolism, growth, reproduction and survival of individual Arctic planktonic organisms and communities. The experiments will encompass the full range of temperatures, spanning from pre-disturbance summer values (-1deg C) to the upper limit of forecasts for the 21st century.
Sixteen members of the cruise participants are from the ATP project team. We have two journalists, Alicia Rivera and Sylvi Inez Liljegren, one photographer, Rudi Cayers, one multimedia artist, Emanuel Elviro Vidal and four artists, artists, Johanne Marie Hansen-Krone, Toril Johannessen, Terje Roaldkvam and Thomas Østby as guests.
